Numancia and Valladolid will meet over two legs to decide the last promotion spot after both won through their semi-final ties this weekend. On Saturday Numancia surprised favourites Zaragoza, an injury time header from Diamanka giving them a 1-2 victory. Prior to that Mikel González had cancelled out Iñigo Pérez’s opener, and as the higher ranked side, the Maños would have gone through had there been no more goals. And on Sunday Valladolid built on their 3-1 first leg win, Sergio González’s side beating Sporting Gijón 1-2 in the return match. The game was all but over within half an hour after Mata and Oscar Plano both scored for the visitors with long shots, and a second half penalty by Carmona after Michael Santos was fouled came too late to change the result. It was a bad day all round for the Asturians, as their B team were also beaten by Elche in the 2B play-offs. Elche now meet Villarreal B for one of the two remaining promotion spots, with Extremadura facing Cartagena for the other place. (10.06.18)
