An impressive start by Spain’s new under 21 side, a 3-0 victory over Italy in their first warm-up game setting them up well for the upcoming European qualifiers. Seven of the starting line-up had played before at this level though, and midway through the first half they took the lead, Mikel Merino picking up a pass from Carlos Soler and nut-megging a defender before shooting past Scuffet. Unai Nuñez hit the post with a clever back-heel a few minutes later, and with the first half coming to a close Borja Mayoral ran on to Merino’s through ball to make it two. After the restart Unai Simón had to make a couple of important saves, but with ten minutes to go Jorge Meré wrapped things up with a looping header from Lato’s free kick. (01.09.17)
