Match round-up - Second Division A, Day 2

Tenerife head up the second division after the second round of games after they beat Barcelona B 0-3 on Monday evening. Both teams had won their opening fixtures, but Juan Carlos picked up Juan Villar’s pass to give the Canary Islanders the lead with an angled shot with just under half an hour gone. Suso made it two from the penalty spot some ten minutes later after Fali brought down Villar, and substitute Longo got on the end of Suso’s cross to turn the third past Varo with twenty minutes to go. Tenerife are the only side to win their first two games. (28.08.17)

Even at this early stage of the competition, the second division is as equal as ever, and with only two rounds of games gone (pending the Monday night fixture), no team has won or lost both matches. Five sides are on four points though, Sporting Gijón leading the pack after a 2-0 victory over Lugo on Sunday. Both goals came after the break, Carmona netting the first after a good run by Michael Santos, and Santos himself heading the second from a Carmona corner. The other three matches on Sunday ended all square, Cádiz joining the group on four points after a 0-0 draw at home to Alcorcón. Despite the result there were several chances, Alvaro García and Romera hitting the woodwork for the locals, and Brian clearing off the line from Borja and Cifuentes saving from Alvaro Giménez at the other end.

Granada have yet to get their act together since being relegated last season, and they drew for the second time, this time 1-1 at Zaragoza. Pedro gave the Andalusians with a low free kick which went under the defensive wall midway through the first half, but Borja Iglesias saved a point for the Maños from the penalty spot after Germán pulled down the striker in the area with twenty minutes to go. Local rivals Reus and Nàstic also drew 1-1, Gus Ledes putting the locals in front before the break with a wide free kick which flew over everyone in to the net, and Maikel Mesa volleying home the equaliser following a corner some twelve minutes in to the second half. Reus could have won it though had Dmitrievski not saved a Querol penalty after Ricardo Vaz was brought down by Bruno Perone with ten minutes to go. (27.08.17)

Rayo Vallecano and Numancia came in to their game on Saturday having won their opening matches the week before, but in the end they had to settle for a point apiece as the visitors came back to draw 2-2. Oscar Trejo scored twice in the first twenty minutes to put the locals two up, the second from the penalty spot after Escassi fouled Comesaña in the area. But after the restart Pere Milla got one back and then set up Diamanka for the equaliser, and that was how it stayed. At the end of the day the two teams top the table together with Almería, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Oviedo. Saúl Berjón combined with Toché to put the visitors in front with his third of the season at the start of the second half, but Pozo made it all square with a shot from outside of the area a few minutes later.

Last week’s leaders Lorca were beaten 2-0 by Huesca, Melero giving the home side an early lead, and Cucho Hernández making it two with a shot in off the post later on in the first half. Valladolid got their first points of the season after winning 1-2 at Sevilla Atlético, Mata scoring twice before the break, and Carlos Fernández getting one back from the spot after Luismi gave away a penalty on Aburjania at the start of the second half. And Cultural Leonesa came from behind against Osasuna to get their first win since being promoted, Roberto Torres opening the scoring for the visitors with just over a quarter of an hour gone, but Iza and Rodri scoring twice in the last ten minutes for the hosts after Oier had been sent off for a second bookable offence. Córdoba kicked off the week two games with a 0-3 victory at Albacete on Friday evening. The Andalusians hd lost their opening match against Cádiz, but Edu Ramos headed them in to the lead from a Javi Lara corner midway through the first half. Javi Galán made it two on the hour mark after Tomeu Nadal had deflected a Lara shot on to both goal-posts, the referee waving away claims for offside, and new signing Jovanovic completed the scoring after Jona set him up in time added on.
