Latest transfers

Barcelona are starting to spend the €222 million they got from Paris Saint Germain for Neymar although, as reported ten days ago, they are having to pay over the odds as everyone knows they have money. Borussia Dortmund’s Dembélé for example has just cost them a fixed fee of €105 million, plus another €42 million in variables, and their next target Coutinho may cost even more, if Liverpool let him go that is. Hard to believe that they could have tied up Marco Asensio for €3.5 million when he was still at Mallorca, missing out in the end as Real Madrid nipped in whilst they were bickering about payment terms!

Only one week to go though until that September 1 st deadline, and we expect to see many more big moves this week as clubs concentrate on completing their squads after the opening two league games. Real Madrid will not of course be signing Mbappé however, PSG making a mockery of the financial fair play rules by taking him on loan with an obligatory €180 million buy-out clause next summer, not to mention the likes of Fabinho and Reina who could also move to Paris in the next few days (UEFA, where are you?). Zidane though has said he is happy with his squad, and doesn’t expect any movements before Friday.

The main movers since our last report have been Valencia, who have signed Gabriel Paulista, Murillo and Kondogbia, and who expect to add a couple more names before the weekend. Las Palmas have filled the gap left by Roque with Aquilani and Samper, although they have lost Kevin-Prince Boateng, who has returned to Germany for personal reasons, and Jesé, who has gone to Stoke. Valencia’s city neighbours Levante have signed their own Boateng (Emmanuel) as well as tying up Sasa Lukic, and have also brought Samu García back to Spain, and Málaga have finally agreed terms for Esteban Rolón in a deal which has been off and on for several days now.
