Disappointment for Spain’s under 21 side, a 0-1 defeat against Germany depriving them of what would have been their fifth European title at this level. A disciplined German team chased down every ball though and didn’t allow Spain to play their usual game, and a looping header from Weiser shortly before half time was enough to give them the victory. Before that though Meyer headed against the post, and Kepa had to make saves from Gerhardt and Gnabry. Bellerín headed just wide at the other end and Deulofeu, Saúl and Sandro had shots blocked, and after the restart Pollersbeck had to save from Saúl, and Ceballos fired a long effort just past the post. Germany closed things down though after that, and although Spain took home all the individual awards (Ceballos – best player in the tournament, Saúl top scorer, Asensio - second top scorer), it was Stefan Kuntz’s side who came away with the big prize.
