The play-offs for promotion from the second division began this week, with four teams vying for the one remaining spot in the top flight. Having finished third in the table, Getafe are the favourties for a quick return, and a 2-2 draw at Huesca on Wednesday evening in the first leg of their semi-final set them up for a place in the final. The Madrid based side will be ruing the fact though that they threw away a two goal lead, Jorge Molina opening the scoring from the penalty spot at the start of the second half, and then heading in a second a few minutes later. Substitutes Vinicius and Camacho made it all square in the end however to keep the locals in with a chance of a first ever season at the highest level. The following day Cádiz beat Tenerife 1-0 in the second semi-final, Aketxe getting the only goal with a long shot midway through the second half to give the Andalusians the edge. The second legs take place this weekend with the two winners going through to next week’s final, again to be played over home and away legs. (15.06.17)
