A brave fight by Celta, but in the end they fell a goal short of reaching their first ever European final after a 1-1 draw at Manchester United on Thursday. The single goal win from the first leg had given Mourinho’s side the advantage, and with just over a quarter of an hour gone Fellaini put them further in front with a header from Rashford’s centre. Iago Aspas, Pablo Hernández and Sisto tested Romero in reply before the break, but Sergio Alvarez had to keep out Mkhitaryan, Rashford and Fellaini after the restart. With five minutes to go however Roncaglia headed the equalizer from Bongonda’s cross, and another away goal would have taken the Galicians through. Bailly and Roncaglia were sent off soon afterwards though as tempers frayed, and Guidetti missed a last minute half-chance to win it. For the first time in four years there will be no Spanish side in the final, Manchester United’s opponents in Solna being Ajax after they knocked out Olympique Lyon in the other semi-final. (11.05.17)
