Leaders Levante end the weekend seven points clear of second placed Girona after a 1-1 draw at Sevilla Atlético on Sunday evening. Roger put the Valencia based side ahead in the twelfth minute, but the striker was sent off for a second bookable offence after the interval, and Fede saved a point for the youngsters with fifteen minutes to go. López Muñiz’s side still have a fifteen point gap over third place though, currently occupied by Cádiz after they won 0-3 at Numancia in the mid-day kick-off. All the goals came after the break, Imaz starting things off with a volley following a corner some ten minutes in to the second half. Iñigo Pérez was sent off soon afterwards, but the result was still in doubt until Aketxe and Salvi added two more in the final three minutes.
Valladolid and Lugo stay out of the top six however after they cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw, Joselu’s early opener cancelled out by a strike from Raúl de Tomás some five minutes later. Further down the table UCAM Murcia moved clear of the danger zone after a 2-3 win at bottom club Almería, the result signalling the end for local coach Fernando Soriano. Basha put the visitors ahead, and although goals either side of half time by Ximo Navarro and Fidel turned things around, strikes by Ibán and Tito gave the university side an important win. Two weeks ago Nàstic were at the foot of the table, but they are now out of the bottom four completely after beating Zaragoza 1-2 in the last match of the weekend. Angel opened the scoring for the Maños in the fourth minute, but Juan delgado levelled it on the half hour mark, and Suzuki headed the winner following a corner with twenty minutes to go. (26.02.17)
Second placed Girona maintained their eight point gap over the chasing pack with a 0-2 victory at Mirandés on Saturday evening. The Catalans left it late though, Sandaza opening the scoring with a shot past Sergio Pérez some seven minutes before the end, and Longo wrapping things up from the penalty spot after Fran Cruz fouled Pere Pons in the area with a couple of minutes to go. Tenerife are now third after a 1-4 victory at Mallorca, the result extending their unbeaten run to nine games. The locals went ahead through a Juan Domínguez header in the fifth minute, but soon after the restart Raillo put through his own net, and a few minutes later Aarón Ñíguez put the Canary Islanders in front. With just over an hour gone amath headed in a Jorge cross for the third, and Aarón completed the scoring from the penalty spot with fifteen minutes left to go.
Getafe stay a point below Tenerife in fourth place after they beat city neighbours Rayo Vallecano 1-0 in the last match of the evening. The only goal came in the last minute, Dorado deflecting a Jorge Molina header in to his own net to hand a defeat to new coach Michel, who took over from Rubén Baraja a few days ago. Rayo end the day just above the drop zone, now two points below Córdoba, who beat Alcorcón 1-0 earlier in the day. Here too the goal came in the dying moments, Alfaro scrambling the ball past Dmitrovic to give the Andalusians their first home win in five months. Elsewhere Elche and Huesca drew 1-1, both teams ending the day in mid-table. Vadillo got the opener for the visitors midway through the first half, but Pelegrín made it all square after the restart with a header from a free kick. (25.02.17)
Oviedo are up to third in the table pending the rest of the weekend games after a 1-1 draw at Reus on Friday evening. The locals had the better of the first forty five minutes, Querol, Guzzo and Benito all failing to convert chances before Ramón Folch fired home the opener with just under half an hour on the clock. However midway through the second half Borja Domínguez connected with a Christian centre to volley the equalizer past Edgar Badía, and Fernando Hierro’s team came close to taking the three points later on.
