Spain’s under 21 side drew 1-1 against Austria in the first leg of their European Championships play-off, giving them a slight advantage going in to Tuesday’s return match in Albacete. Williams and Daúl Ñíguez both tested Bachmann early on, but Schoissengeyer headed wide at the other end, and Kepa had to save from Wydra later on in the first half. However with half time approaching Schoissengeyer pushed over Deuloeu in the area, and the team captain stepped up to convert the kick, his 16 th goal at this level taking him past Rodrigo as the under 21s highest ever scorer. Kepa had to keep out Wydra again though after the restart, and with an hour on the clock Jonny turned a cross from Wydra in to his own net with Laimer closing in from behind. Oliver Torres brought another good save out of Bachmann, and substitute Munir went close a couple of times later on, but in the end Albert Celades’ side had to settle for a draw, leaving everything in the balance for the second leg.
