The first division took a rest this weekend due to the international fixtures, but the second division continued, with a full round of games between Friday and Sunday. Zaragoza are back on top after a 1-0 win over neighbours Huesca on Sunday evening, The Maños on seven points level with Levante and Valladolid. Irureta had to make an early save from Urko Vera, but Lanzarote and Angel tested Sergio Herrera, and with two minutes to go to the break the visitors were left with ten men when Babcock was shown a rigorous second yellow card for taking a free kick too early. Despite that though Carlos David headed against the bar after the interval, but Herrera had to save again from Angel, and with three minutes to go the striker laid the ball back for Casado to fire home the winner. No teams are on maximum points though after last week’s leaders Levante were held to a 1-1 draw at Nàstic earlier in the evening. Neither keeper had too much to do until twenty minutes in to the second half, Chema firing the visitors into the lead after a corner fell to him. Lerma and Roger could have added to the scoreline after that, but with five minutes to go Juan Muñiz saved what was a third draw in a row for the Catalans, beating young keeper Koke Vegas with a well struck free kick.
Once again though draws were the order of the day, with the other two games on Sunday also finishing all square. Numancia and Alcorcón picked up their second points of the new campaign thanks to a 1-1 result in the Pajaritos stadium, both teams scoring their first goals of the season after failing to find the net in their first two outings. Those came early on though, David Rodríguez heading a Fede Vega cross past Aitor Fernández qith less than two minutes gone, and Callens responding with another header from a Julio Alvarez centre some twenty minutes later. Manu del Moral came close to winning it for the locals though when he drilled a low free kick against the foot of the post near the end. Later in the day Mallorca and Oviedo shared the points in a 0-0 draw, the result taking the islanders out of the relegation zone and leaving Tenerife and Rayo Vallecano at the bottom of the table as the only two teams on one point. It was only thanks to Mallorca born Juan Carlos though that the visitors came away with a point, the ex Villarreal keeper pushing an early header from Yuste on to the bar, and making a string of saves from Culio, Lago Junior, Moutinho and others throughout the match. Valladolid moved to the top of the table pending Sunday’s games after a 2-1 victory over Girona on Saturday evening. Both teams came in to the match evenly balanced with four points from their first two outings. However the locals raced in to a two goal lead with only a quarter of an hour on the clock, Lichnowski getting on the end of Balbi’s cross to beat René, and ex Girona forward Mata converting a penalty after José was brought down by Kiko Olivas in the area. Borja García got one back on the hour mark though with a shot over keeper Isaac Becerra (also ex Girona), and both keepers made important saves late on to keep the scoreline unmoved. Elche are up to third after they beat Tenerife 3-1 later in the evening. Hervías put the locals ahead in only the second minute after connecting with a pass from Nino, and Pedro made it two from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Raúl Cámara midway through the second half. Juan Carlos saved a Vitolo penalty though after Josete handled in the area with six minutes to go, and a couple of minutes later Omar got one back from a Carlos Ruíz assist. However with the Canary Islanders throwing everything forward, Hugo Fraile wrapped things up for the locals on a rapid counter-attack.
Mirandés end the day in fifth spot after they came back from two goals down to beat Cádiz 3-2. Ortuño opened the scoring in the seventh minute, beating Sergio Pérez at the second attempt, and with just over half an hour gone the striker passed on for Salvi to fire an angled shot across the keeper. Before the break though Santamaría was sent off for a second bookable offence, and soon after the restart Eguaras converted a penalty after Garrido pulled down fofo in the area. Four minutes later Fofo set up Maikel Mesa to level the scores, and Guarrotxena ran in to head the winner from Fofo’s cross later on. Reus join Córdoba and Mirandés on five points after they drew 1-1 at Getafe. Carbia rattled the woodwork for the visitors and Scepovic tested Badía before the break, but with an hour on the clock Edgar Hernández put the Catalans in front from the penalty spot after Gorosito brought down Jorge Díaz in the area. Soon afterwards though Jorge Molina turned a shot past the keeper after Fuster put him through to give the Madrid based team their third draw in a row. If Getafe are having problems getting going after being relegated, their neighbours Rayo Vallecano are even worse, a 3-0 defeat at Almería leaving them down at the bottom of the table. The Andalusians scored twice in the last five minutes of the first half, Puertas beating Toño with a low shot from the edge of the area, and Azeez heading the second after Fidel headed back Chuli’s cross. And with a quarter of an hour to go Fidel connected with Pozo’s centre to fire home the third, giving his team their first victory of the season. (03.09.16)
For the third Friday in a row, both second division matches ended all square. Córdoba moved up to second pending the rest of the weekend games after a thrilling 3-3 draw with Lugo, Juli saving a point for the Andalusians with an injury time penalty after Leuko was sent off for bringing down Piovaccari. The home side went ahead twice, Rodri opening the scoring midway through the first half with a first time volley, and then converting a second half penalty for a foul by Djaló on Deivid after Campillo had levelled the scores. However a snap-shot by Joselu and a header following a corner by Ignasi Miquel turned the scoreline around before Juli’s late spot kick saved the day. Earlier in the evening newly promoted teams Sevilla Atlético and UCAM Murcia cancelled each other out in a 1-1 draw. Despite having Basha sent off for a second bookable offence, Imaz put the visitors in front following a quick passing move with a quarter of an hour or so to go. However a few minutes later Carrillo equalized with an overhead kick from a loose ball after Carlos Fernández was tackled in the area. (02.09.15)
