Levante are the only side to win both of their opening matches, López Muñiz’s team beating Alcorcón 2-0 on Sunday evening. The locals had by far the better of the first half, Roger going close before firing a shot past Dmitrovic in the sixth minute. And with the first half coming to a close, Roger headed his second of the evening after Campaña’s header came back off the bar. The Valencia based team are now two points clear of five clubs, including Valladolid, who drew 0-0 at Rayo Vallecano later in the evening. Keepers Toño (returning after a 9 month injury lay-off) and Isaac Becerra had little to do, the former making a couple of saves from Mata either side of half time, and the latter keeping out Ebert and Manucho after the restart.
In all though this weekend no less than eight matches finished all square, the other three on Sunday evening all ending a goal apiece. Còrdoba join the group on four points after they drew 1-1 at newly promoted UCAM Murcia, Luso heading an injury time equalizer from a Caballero cross after Góngora had given the home side the lead directly with an inswinging corner over the head of Pawel. Nàstic also saved a point in the last minute at Huesca, Samu Saíz picking up a pass from Cmiljanic to put the locals ahead with ten minutes to go, and Rharsalla volleying a shot past Herrera following a corner near the end. And Cádiz and Mallorca drew 1-1 as well in the last game of the evening, Ortuño converting a penalty midway through the first half after he was pushed over by Campany, and Oscar Díaz levelling it after the break for the visitors, who ended with ten men after Campany picked up a second booking in the ninetieth minute. Girona and Zaragoza are joint leaders of the second division pending Sunday’s games, both teams on four points with identical goal coefficients after Saturday’s games. Girona beat Elche 3-1 in the first match of the evening, the Catalans going two up by half time with a wide Borja García free kick, and a strike by Portu after Aday crossed in from the left. Cristian Herrera missed a couple of chances to increase the lead, but Longo connected with Portu’s cross to add the third, and Guillermo’s strike in injury time from Nino’s centre was scant consolation for the visitors. Later in the evening Zaragoza drew 3-3 in a high scoring match at Lugo, although the Maños will feel that they dropped two points after leading by two goals with twenty minutes to go. Lanzarote took advantage of a mix up between Carlos Hernández and José Juan to score the easiest of goals on the quarter hour mark, but Pedraza latched on to Yelko Pino’s centre to fire home the equalizer before the break. Angel put the visitors back in front though after Zapater won the ball off Pita, and soon afterwards the striker notched up his fourth of the season with an angled shot past José Juan. However with twenty minutes to go Campillo set up Joselu to get one back, and Campillo himself made it all square soon afterwards with a shot off the crossbar.
Reus are level on points with the two leaders though after they drew 1-1 against Mirandés. An enthusiastic crowd turned up to see the Catalan side’s first ever home game in the second division, and with less than a minute on the clock they took the lead when Carbia got on the end of a Jorge Díaz cross to beat Sergio. However Fofo equalized some twelve minutes later, and although the home side dominated after that, the scoreline remained unmoved. Oviedo meanwhile are up to fourth after they beat Almería 2-0. The Asturians had lost their opening match at Valladolid, and up to half time honours were shared. However some eight minutes in to the second half Nando cut a swathe through the opposition defence to open the scoring, and a few minutes later the visitors were left with ten men when Diamanka picked up two bookings in succession. That took the wind out of their sails, and with five minutes to go Toché beat Casto again to wrap things up. (27.08.16)
Two matches in the second division on Friday evening, both ending all square once again. Getafe and Numancia were first up, and they cancelled each other out in a 0-0 draw. The visitors did the early attacking without causing too many problems for Guaita, and Munir had to save efforts from Lacen before the break, and Molina and Feltscher after the restart. Esnáider threw on all of his fire power later on, but even so they could not find the route to goal, and only a good save by Guaita from Acuña prevented the visitors from scoring near the end. Later in the evening Tenerife and Sevilla Atlético drew 1-1, a first point of the season for the Canary Islanders. The visitors went ahead in the twentieth minute when Cotán won the ball off Jorge to run on and beat Dani Hernández. Ivi got himself sent off soon afterwards however for a rash tackle on Raúl Cámara, but the youngsters held on until midway through the second half, when Cristo put Lozano through for him to beat Soriano and level the scores.
