Summer transfers

Less than two weeks to go now before the 2016-17 season kicks off, and clubs have largely got their new squads together. The transfer window doesn`t close though until the end of the month, and some teams will be waiting to see how they fare in the opening game or two before making the final touches, especially those holding on for the bargain-basement last minute offloads as the deadline approaches. Still no news on the FIFA bans for Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid, but both seem to be fairly settled with their lot so far, the former happy to let Jesé move on to PSG, and the latter looking to lighten their salary load rather than add to it after tying up Gameiro. Sevilla meanwhile moved quickly to replace their top goalscorer, Ben Yedder signed from Toulouse and Vietto coming in on loan from Atleti, and they have also taken on Mercado to substitute Coke, who left for Schalke (and unfortunately picked up a serious injury just days after moving).

Villarreal have also been very active in recent days, in particular bringing Alexandre Pato back to Europe, and signing on two Italian internationals with German backgrounds, Soriano and Sansone. It remains to be seen though whether Pato can get back to his glory days at AC Milan, and the same goes for Kevin-Prince Boateng, the flamboyant new signing at Las Palmas, who has had more than his fair share of controversy in recent years. Elsewhere Barcelona are still looking for that elusive “fourth forward” to take the load off the MSN front three, and the Catalans have found homes for several cast-offs, including Vermaelen, Adriano, Montoya and Song.
