Athletic Bilbao scraped through to the league stage of the competition, although there were some nervous moments before they beat Zilina 1-0 to qualify on the away goal rule. Despite the 3-2 defeat in the first leg, the Basque side were confident of overturning the scoreline, and Beñat and Eraso tested keeper Volesak before Elustondo beat him with a shot from outside of the area midway through the first half. Beñat and Susaeta failed to convert chances either side of half time, but Herrerín had to save from Jelic before the break, and Paur and Kacer both had shots deflected wide after the restart. In the end though Valverde had to pull his men back to run down the clock, and there was relief all round when the referee blew the final whistle.
