Huesca will be the last name to go into the hat for next week’s the third round draw after they beat Mallorca 0-2 on Thursday evening. Tyronne and Fran Mérida got the goals in the second half for the newly promoted side. Osasuna’s place in the third round is in jeopardy though after it was confirmed that they included a suspended player, Unai García, in their line-up. Their opponents Mirandés have appealed and will almost certainly be reinstated. (10.09.15)
The second round of the Spanish cup took place this week, with second division clubs entering for the first time. Three of the ten matches involving those teams went past the ninety minutes, Almería and Nàstic beating Elche and Girona respectively on penalties, and Llagostera knocking out Albacete in extra time. They will be joined in the next round by Alavés, Leganés, Lugo, Osasuna, Oviedo and Ponferradina, together with Zaragoza, who were given a bye. Mallorca and Huesca play tomorrow.
Of the lower ranked clubs, only one third division side made it through, Laredo following up their first round victory against Racing Santander with a 3-1 win against Cultural Leonesa. Another eleven second division B teams qualified with them for the third round, Barakaldo, Cádiz, CD Ebro, Racing Ferrol, Huracán Valencia, Linares, Lleida Esportiu, UD Logroñés, UCAM Murcia, Reus and Villanovense, and as usual they will be paired together in the draw, with the six survivors promised a money-spinning fourth round tie with one of La Liga’s European sides.
