The Spanish cup kicked off this week, with 36 lower ranked teams playing first round ties over one leg. All three of the sides relegated from the second division A last season were eliminated (Barcelona B are ineligible), Racing Santander, Recreativo and Sabadell being knocked out by Laredo, Linense and Castellón respectively. Laredo and Castellón play in the regional third division, as do Formentera, who came from behind to beat Alcoyano. The 18 winners go through to next week’s second round, together with the six second division B sides who were given a bye. Second division A teams will also enter the competition at this stage, although they are kept separate in the draw from the regional sides. (02.09.15)
