Elche have been relegated to the second division after failing to pay amounts due to the Spanish tax authorities! The new owners had presented guarantees to the authorities, but the local courts decided that this was insufficient, and that the ruling should still stand. The club are appealing to the Spanish sporting tribunal, but as things stand they are down, and Eibar will be reinstated as the best ranked of the teams who were relegated at the end of the season. Things could get worse for Elche though, as they still owe back wages to their players, and if these are not settled by the 3st July deadline then they will drop down to the regional second division B. Other clubs are struggling too to make the deadline, in particular Getafe, and they could also be relegated if they can’t sort out their problems in time. (05.06.15)
