Valencia's poor start to the season continued after they were comprehensively beaten 0-3 by "Spanish" Swansea in their opening group game. The Ches were left with ten men when Rami was sent off with less than ten minutes gone for pulling back Bony as he advanced on goal, and although Djukic tried to close the door by bringing on Costa, the change came to late to prevent Bony from connecting with Michu's cross to put the Welsh side ahead. There was little reaction from the Ches though, and Dyer, Bony and Michu could all have added to the lead before De Guzmán and Pozuelo combined to set up Michu for the second. De Guzmán himself added a third for Michael Laudrup's side soon afterwards, and Valencia's first real effort at goal didn't come until ten minutes from the end when Postiga headed wide. After losing three of their four opening league games as well, there were serious protests from the crowd after the game ended.
