Spain’s under 19 side failed to qualify for this year’s European finals after they were beaten 1-3 by Germany in their last group game. Luis De la Fuente’s team needed a win as their opponents had scored more goals than them in the first two fixtures, but although Munir headed in Gayá’s cross to open the scoring early on, Selke headed the equalizer a few minutes later. Brandt gave the Germans the lead on a quick breakaway before the interval, and Lohkemper wrapped things up before Ivi got himself sent off for a second bookable offence near the end. It was in fact a double blow for six-times champions Spain, as it also means they miss out on next summer’s under 20 World Cup.
