Spain’s under 17 side failed to qualify for the European finals for the fourth year in a row after losing 0-1 to Switzerland in their last Elite group match. Both teams came in to the game joint top of their group, level on points and goal average. However with hosts Russia beating Wales 2-0 in the other group tie, a draw in this game would have taken the Russians through instead. As it was though Alpsoy beat Sevilla keeper Soriano with five minutes to go to take the Swiss in to the finals, and leave Santi Denía’s youngsters down in third place.
