An important win for Spain in their second group game, a 1-0 victory over Wales taking them joint top of their group with Switzerland. Santi Denía’s side dominated for much of the match, although it was not until ten minutes from the end that Aleix García set up Sporting’s Jorge Meré to get what was to prove the only goal following a corner. Spain play Switzerland on Monday with the winners to qualify for the finals, although if they draw then hosts Russia could sneak past them if they can beat Wales by a difference of more than one goal.
