Barcelona won this season's Super Cup on the away goals rule after their match in the Nou Camp against cup winners Atlético Madrid ended 0-0, Neymar's strike in the first leg giving the defending league champions the slight edge. It was an intense game, Simeone's side fighting for every ball and not allowing space to Messi and Neymar, who were together in the starting line-up for the first time. The best two chances in the first hour or so fell to the visitors, Valdés having to make top class saves from Turan and Villa either side of half time. With ten minutes to go though referee Fernández Borbolán sent off Filipe Luis after an off-the-ball incident with his Brazilian international team-mate Dani Alves, and a few minutes later Barça were awarded a penalty when Miranda bundled over Pedro in the area. Messi's spot kick came back off the crossbar though, and there were some tense moments after that, with Turan also being shown a red card for his protests whilst already on the substitutes' bench.
