The play-offs for the one remaining promotion spot began today, with Córdoba drawing 0-0 against Murcia, and Las Palmas beating Sporting Gijón 1-0. The play-offs for the one remaining promotion spot began today, with four teams meeting over two-leg semi-finals to decide the two finalists. The first game between Córdoba and Murcia ended 0-0 though, neither side able to beat the opposing keeper. The visitors had the better of the first half, with Saúl, Dorca and Eddy all shooting wide. However Chapi Ferrer’s team could have won it after the break, Dos Santos clearing off the line from Arturo with Casto beaten, and Xisco seeing his last minute shot deflected on to the upright. Everything wlll now be decided next Sunday, although in the case of another scoreless draw it will be Murcia who go through as the higher ranked team.
Las Palmas have the advantage in their play-off semi-final after they beat Sporting Gijón 1-0 in the first leg. The Canary Islanders went ahead with just over twenty minutes gone, Aranda steering a shot past Cuéllar after Bernardo could only play a wayward clearance by the keeper back in to his path. Nauzet and Apoño could have increased the lead before the interval, but after the restart the Asturians had the better chances, Barbosa having to punch an inswinging Carmona corner way from under the crossbar, and Lekic seeing his shot deflected just wide of the post following a set-piece free kick. Josico’s team kept an important clean sheet though, and it seems that their late change of manager may pay off in the end.
