Spain’s under 19 side failed to qualify for this year’s European finals after they were beaten 1-3 by Germany in their last group game. Luis De la Fuente’s team opened the Elite round in Vigo with a 3-1 victory over Denmark, Barcelona’s Sandro and Munir and Athletic’s Unai López the scorers, and then went on to beat Lithuania 2-0, with Munir and Sandro again on the scoresheet. However they came in to their last match needing a win after Germany clocked up two higher scoring victories, and although Munir opened the scoring early on, their opponents turned it around to leave the six-times champions out of the competition. It was in fact a double blow for Spain, as it also means they miss out on next summer’s under 20 World Cup. (05.06.14)
