Mallorca's nightmare start to the season continues, a 3-0 defeat at Sporting Gijón on Sunday lunchtime leaving them firmly anchored at the foot of the table with zero points and a negative goal difference of 2-11. Things started to go against them with only a quarter of an hour gone, when Agus was sent off for a foul on Hugo Fraile. A few minutes later Fraile opened the scoring for the Asturians after Jara's corner fell to him, and ten minutes in to the second half the visitors were left with nine men when Ximo Navarro was sent off for a second bookable offence. After that alex Barera combined with Scepovic to make it two, and with four minutes to go Scepovic himself picked up Mandi's through ball to beat aouate for a third time. A good win for Sandoval's side against a team who theoretically at least are rivals for promotion, and they ended the weekend in third spot.
Alcorcón are the current leaders of the second division though, a 3-0 victory over Recreativo in the last match of the weekend making them the only side to win all three of their opening games. New signing Christian Alfonso got the first on the quarter hour mark following a Sergio Mora free kick, and the visitors were left a man short when Ezequiel was sent off for a knee in the back of Héctor Verdés with six minutes still to go to the break. Midway through the second half Fernando sales made it two on a quick counterattack, and Camille got the third with ten minutes to go, just minutes after he replaced Javito, who had to be substituted himself only ten minutes after coming on for Alfonso.
Alcorcón were only confirmed as a second division side a few days before the start of the season, and Mirandés only survived as well thanks to a last minute injection of capital from the players. They are taking full advantage now though, a 2-0 win over Tenerife on Sunday evening taking Gonzalo Arconada's side up to fourth in the table. The Canary Islanders had the better of the first half, but local keeper Prieto was once again on top form, with saves in particular from Cristo and Suso. With Galarreta on the park though the locals improved after the break, Mújika putting them ahead with an angled shot a quarter of an hour from the end, and Juan Muñiz wrapping things up with the game already in injury time.
Córdoba missed out on a chance to join Alcorcón at the top of the table after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Alavés. It was a lively game, keepers Goitia and Saizar in action early on before Pepe Mora headed the visitors in to the lead from Luciano's cross. Iago Bouzón headed the equaliser however following a corner some five minutes in to the second half, and Caballero and Xisco both missed chances to give the home side the three points later on. Deportivo lost to Córdoba last week, but they are now just a point behind them after a 0-3 win at Sabadell. All the goals came in the second half, new signing Borja Bastón starting things off after a slip by the defence just three minutes after the restart, and the youth international striker got his second of the evening with fifteen minutes to go. Four minutes later Arizmendi combined with Rudy to score a third, and Rudy himself came close to extending the lead when he hit the post late on.
Both Murcia and Ponferradina's first objective is to stay up this season, and they ended the weekend in mid-table after a 2-2 draw. The visitors went ahead twice, Yuri getting the opener midway through the first half and Fofo firing home a free kick three minutes after the break. However Kike García won himself a penalty to equalise on the stroke of half time, and Acciari headed in Saúl's corner on the hour mark to save a point for his side. Lugo are level with both teams on four points after they beat Jaén 4-2. The Galicians were 4-1 up at the break, Rennella setting up Seoane to open the scoring early on, and netting the second himself. Jona intercepted a bad Seoane back pass to put the Andalusians back in the game, but Pablo Sánchez restored the two goal cushion, and Rennella got his second of the evening following an indirect free kick. Jona picked up Juanma's assist to score his second goal with ten minutes to go, but then got himself sent off after catching Pavón with a flying elbow near the end. The defeat leaves Jaén in next to bottom spot, one of three teams together with Mallorca and Castilla yet to pick up a point. (01.09.13)
Leaders Girona were pegged back to a 2-2 draw by Numancia on Saturday evening, although they still top the table pending Sunday's games. Natalio put the visitors ahead on the stroke of half time, turning a shot under Isaac after Bedoya put him through, but Timor made it all square with a well struck free kick, and Bordas got on the end of Juanlu's centre to lift a shot over Biel Ribas with a quarter of an hour left on the clock. Sergi Enrich saved a point for Anquela's side however with a glancing header from Akapo's centre with two minutes to go. Girona are now a point ahead of regional neighbours Barcelona B, who are up in to the top six after a 1-0 victory over Zaragoza. Paco Herrera's side came to the Mini Estadi looking for a first win, but they came up against keeper Masip, who made top class saves before the break from Roger and in particular José Marí. Luis García also went close with a free kick, but Joan Román put Leo Franco to the test after the restart with an acrobatic shot, and with twenty minutes to go Dani Nieto got what was to prove the only goal after Joan Román put him through.
Hércules did get their first win of the season though, the Alicante based side beating Real Madrid Castilla 2-1 despite having to play all the second half with ten men after Borja Gómez picked up a second booking on the stroke of half time. Before that Eldin had put the locals ahead with an angled shot following a quick break-away, but from the free kick resulting from Gómez's red card, Casado beat Falcón to equalise. After the restart Borja García headed against the post, but with four minutes to go Pamarot got on the end of a long Javi Hervás free kick to head home the winner. Elsewhere Las Palmas and Eibar shared the points in a 1-1 draw, a result which left the canary Islanders down in the lower reaches of the table without a win to date. The Basques had the better of the first half, and they took the lead on the quarter hour mark when David García turned the ball past his own keeper under pressure from Capa. The unfortunate García got himself sent off with ten minutes to go for a foul on Capa, but with another defeat seemingly on the cards, young substitute Asdrúbal beat Irureta with an angled shot to save the day.
