Luis de la Fuente began his spell as Spain's under 19 coach with a 0-1 victory over hosts Poland in the opening game of this season's Elite round. Vadillo hit the post before Córdoba's Fede Vico opened the scoring with a long shot midway through the first half. But Celta's young keeper Rubén Blanco was stretchered off with concussion soon after the restart after colliding with a Polish forward, and after Vadillo was sent off for a second bookable offence with a quarter of the game still to go, Spain had to fall back to defend their lead. With Greece and Croatia drawing in the other group match though the youngsters are already top of their mini-league.
