Problems for Spain after a 3-2 defeat against Croatia in the opening group game, and they now have to win their remaining two matches against Belgium and France to have any chance of qualifying for this summer's European finals. Santi Denía's side only qualified for the Elite round as one of the best third-placed teams, and once again they struggled before Mamic and Basic put their hosts two up in the first ten minutes of the second half. The East Europeans were left with ten men when Sunjic picked up a second booking, and substitute Mario González took advantage to get one back. However Brodic scored a third for the locals, and although Roguljic was also sent off for a second bookable offence and Traoré scored again for Spain, an injury time red card for Tarin ended any hope they had of saving a draw.
