A second victory for Spain in their qualifying group, although it was not enough to prevent them from ending the stage out of the top two positions. A defeat against Bulgaria in the last match meant they needed a high scoring win to finish above the tournament hosts and/or their opponents in the table, but the 1-0 scoreline together with Bulgaria's 4-1 win over Azerbaijan meant that both Poland and Bulgaria bettered them on the goals scored rule in a three-way tie. It was not for lack of trying though, with Nuñez, Joaquín and Pozo all going close before the break, although they were only able to beat Stryjek with a second half Chirivella penalty after Nuñez was fouled in the area. Sant Denía's team still have a good chance of making it in to the Elite round through the back door however as one of the two highest ranked third placed sides.
