Real Madrid's Champions League campaign took a step backwards when they were beaten 2-1 by Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday. The Bundesliga champions went ahead with just over half an hour gone when Kehl intercepted a Pepe pass and put Lewandowski through to score, and although Ronaldo ran on to Özil's high ball to lob the equalizer two minutes later, Schmelzer fired home the winner after the break. Madrid stay second though, and have a chance to regain the top spot in the return leg in the Bernabeu in two weeks' time. Meanwhile Málaga are going from strength to strength, and they have taken maximum points from their first three games without letting in a single goal after beating the mighty AC Milan 1-0. Joaquín should have given the Andalusians the lead later on in the first half when he fired a penalty over the crossbar after Jesús Gámez had been fouled by Constant in the area, but for the second time in four days he made up for his miss with the winning goal after Iturra put him clear midway through the second half. Wins for both La Liga teams on Tuesday, although Barcelona left it until virtually the last kick of the match before beating Celtic 2-1. The Scottish side actually took the lead early on when a header from Samaras hit Mascherano and deflected in to the net, and although Iniesta combined with Messi and Xavi to equalize on the stroke of half time, it was only in the fourth minute of injury time that Jordi Alba got on the end of Adriano's cross to score the winner and keep up Barça's 100% record in the competition this season. A comfortable 0-3 victory though for Valencia at BATE Borisov, with Roberto Soldado helping himself to a hat-trick. The Spanish international striker got the first from the penalty spot just before the break, and after the restart he volleyed home a long Guardado cross and then connected with a Tino Costa pass to wrap things up. Valencia, BATE and Bayern Munich are all level on six points, although the Spanish side have the better goal difference. (23.10.12)
