Only one match left for Sunday, with Numancia beating Murcia 1-0 in the mid-day kick-off to move above their opponents to tenth spot. The Soria based side had not scored a single goal in their last three games, and they were lucky not to go behind when Satrústegui cleared off the line from Jorge with the keeper beaten. Four minutes in to the second half however Sunny scored what was to prove the only goal with a shot from some thirty metres out, and Natalio, Cedric and Airam could all have added to the lead after that. Both teams ended with ten men after Tagliafico and Malón were sent off for second bookable offences within minutes of each other midway through the second half. (23.09.12)
Leaders Elche dropped points for the first time this season, although they stay top of the table after a 0-0 draw at Huesca. Despite the result it was a lively match, although neither keeper was particularly tested until Luis García had to keep out Fidel on the half hour mark. Visiting keeper Manu Herrera only had to intervene to cut short a couple of counter-attacks, but García was in action again in the second half, in particular to make first class saves from Xumetra and Corominas later on. Second placed Villarreal failed to take advantage though as they too were held to a 2-2 draw at Las Palmas. Marcos Senna opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the fifth minute after David García brought down Trigueros in the area, but Javi Guerrero and Vitolo both rattled the woodwork before Thievy equalised after Juan Carlos could only push out a shot from Guerrero at the start of the second half. Thievy got his second of the evening with twenty minutes to go after Chrisantus set him up, but a few minutes later Senna converted a second penalty after Barbosa fouled Hernán Pérez to save a point for the visitors.
Almería stay a point behind Villarreal after they could only draw 2-2 at Ponferradina. Lafuente gave the locals the lead with just under a quarter of an hour gone, his shot taking a deflection off a defender. And although Soriano headed the equaliser four minutes later, Yuri put the León based side back ahead with a penalty on the stroke of half time after Fofo was brought down in the area. Ulloa got on the end of a Charles cross to level the scores once again though with twenty minutes to go, and although Ponfe hit the bar late on they could not avoid a fourth game in a row without a win. Barcelona B are up to fourth after they beat a struggling Hércules 0-3, a result which could signal the end for local coach Juan Carlos Mandiá. All the goals came in the last twenty minutes, Luis Alberto coolly waiting for Falcón and his defence to commit themselves before scoring the opener. Lombán made it two from the penalty spot after Diego Rivas handled in the area, and Espinosa scored the third with an angled shot from left of the area.
A good start for the Catalan sides in general though, with Sabadell and Girona both in the play-off spots after Saturday's games. Sabadell are now fifth after a 3-0 win against Xerez, a third victory in a row for Lluis Carreras's side. Moha picked up a rebound to open the scoring close to half time with a shot from the edge of the area, and in the first ten minutes after the restart Dani Tortolero headed in a corner, and Espasandín fired a shot past Toni to make it three. The Andalusians didn't get a shot on target until well past the hour mark, and Hidalgo, Juvenal and Aníbal could all have added to the scoreline later on. Girona's good recent run came to an end though after they were beaten 2-0 by Córdoba. Both teams had a player sent off in the run up to half time, Tena getting his marching orders for a push on Benja, and David García following him down the tunnel three minutes later for a second bookable offence. Renella gave the Andalusians the lead however with a shot on the turn five minutes in to the second half, and Cristian added a second with an angled shot a quarter of an hour from the end.
Alcorcón's run of three victories in a row also came to an end after they lost 2-1 at Sporting Gijón. The Madrid based side went ahead first though, Iván Hernández deflecting a Fernando Sales shot past his own keeper on the quarter hour mark. With the Asturians still looking for their first league win, the players were booed off the park at half time by their fans. But just three minutes after the restart Iván Hernández made up for his mistake, turning the equaliser past Manu after Ricardo headed on a corner. With ten minutes to go David Rodríguez latched on to Cuéllar's long clearance to score the second, and they held fast despite having Gregory sent off for a second yellow card soon after the goal. Alcorcón stay on ten points, level with Girona and Recreativo, who kept up their 100% home record with a 3-0 win over Lugo. The visitors put up a good fight until Pavón picked up a second booking late in the first half. But after the restart Brozek opened his own account and then set up Jesús Rubio for the second, and with twelve minutes to go Fernando Vega wrapped things up with shot from outside of the area.
A high scoring match between Guadalajara and Real Madrid Castilla, with the visitors running out 3-4 winners to leave their opponents firmly anchored to the foot of the table. Jesé opened the scoring for the youngsters with an individualist run, but Aitor headed the equaliser before the break, and Azkorra headed the locals in to the lead soon after the interval. However Denis Cherychev set up Jesé to level the scores and then got one himself from a Morata assist. And although Alvaro Antón made it all square again with a well struck free kick, Mosquera got the winner with a shot which deflected in off Alex Ortíz. Castilla stay a point above Racing Santander, who are gradually moving away from the drop zone after a 0-1 win at Mirandés. The newly promoted side were still looking for their first home win, and although they had the better of the play, they were unable to find a way past Dani Sotres and his packed defence. And with seven minutes to go substitute Koné got on the end of Gai Assulín's cross to turn the ball past Goitia and give his team their second victory in a row. (22.09.12)
