The usual mad rush on the last couple of days of the summer transfer market, with one or two last minute surprises. Everyone thought that Real Madrid had completed their squad, but at the last minute they received a bid for Lass from Russian side Anzhi, and they immediately moved to take Chelsea's Essien on loan. Bayern Munich finally paid up the 40 million for their new "Kaiser", Javi Martínez, although Athletic decided to keep the money in the piggy bank for now. Llorente will be staying at San Mamés after he failed to find a new home, and he will now have to make his peace with the fans if he is continue at the club. Meanwhile Málaga splashed out on new players having qualified for the league stage proper of the Champions League, and they brought in Saviola, Santa Cruz, Iturra and Onyewu. Levante too have strengthened their squad for their European campaign with Volta and Lassad, and Mallorca signed up Giovani Dos Santos and were an inch away from bringing Zigic back to Spain. Elsewhere Betis have taken on Perquis and Angel, and Celta have signed South Korean striker Park Chu-Young from Arsenal. Deportivo's move for Stuani fell through however, and he has been snapped up by Espanyol, who have sold the out of favour Alvaro Vázquez to Getafe. Miku moves out to Celtic on loan to make room, and Real Madrid's Granero, Barcelona's Afellay, Valencia's Pablo and Athletic's David López will also be trying their luck in other leagues this season. And on the international front another Spanish squad member will be playing in the Premier League next season, Javi García completing a 20 million move from Benfica to Manchester City on the last day.
