Atlético Madrid won the European Super Cup for the second time in three years after out-classing Chelsea in Mónaco. The man of the match was undoubtedly Falcao, the Colombian striker firing a shot against the crossbar before beating Cech to open the scoring in the sixth minute. Less than a quarter of an hour later he had his second of the evening after curling a shot in to the far top corner of the net, and he headed against the post again after Adrián had missed an easy chance a few minutes later. Just a minute before half time Falcao completed his second hat-trick in five days after Turan set him up, and a quarter of an hour after the restart Miranda made it four, turning the ball in off Cahill after Mario played on a long free kick. Cahill did poke a shot past ex Chelsea keeper Courtois after Lampard's corner fell at his feet, and David Luiz hit the post in the last minute, but that was scant consolation for the Premier League side.
