Barcelona drew first blood in the opening clash of the season between the two Spanish giants, although Real Madrid will be happier of the two after coming away from the Nou Camp with a 3-2 result in the first leg of this season's Super Cup. Tito Vilanova's side had the better of the first half, with Messi going close a couple of times and Pedro bringing a great save out of Casillas. Ten minutes in to the second half though Madrid took the lead, Cristiano Ronaldo stealing in to head Özil's corner down past Víctor Valdés. But within a minute Barça had equalized, Pedro controlling Mascherano's long ball before beating Casillas with an angled shot. With twenty minutes to go Messi converted a penalty after Ramos brought down Iniesta in the area to put the locals ahead, and soon afterwards Iniesta slipped the ball through for Xavi to make it three. A few minutes later only another good save by Casillas prevented Messi from making it four, and play went down the other end where Valdés tried to dribble round Di María only to gift him an easy goal. A blow for the Catalans after appearing to have things wrapped up, and with two away goals for their rivals, they now need a result in the Bernabeu next Wednesday if they are to win the trophy for a fourth year in a row.
