Latest transfers

Clubs will have two rounds of league games this season before the transfer deadline closes at the end of August, and many are waiting to see how they fare before completing their squads. Some teams have been active in the last few days though, particularly in and around the Valencia area, with Levante spreading their nets around Europe to spend some of the money they got from Wigan for Koné, and Valencia taking on board Nelson Valdez and letting Chori Domínguez go to Rayo. Villarreal are currently under reconstruction, with Marchena and Camuñas moving to Depor and Zapata to AC Milan, and Mellberg and Cavenaghi coming in to replace them. And elsewhere Espanyol have signed ex Barça and Atlético winger Simao, and Sevilla have brought in Spain's Olympic defender Botía from relegated Sporting. It seems though that the big ones are yet to come, with Modric reportedly flying in from Spurs to have talks with Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich supposedly lining up a massive €40 million bid for Athletic's Javi Martínez. (Manchester City permitting). Meanwhile Barcelona are close to signing Arsenal's Song, and with cash as well from Van Persie's move to Manchester United, Arsene Wenger could well join Juventus in the rush to sign Llorente. That would leave Athletic with a windfall profit that they would have to spend somewhere to appease their disgruntled fans, although club restrictions on only signing Basque born players makes that a bit tricky. Betis's Beñat is an obvious target, much to the consternation of the Andalusians, and Real Sociedad are also nervously looking over their shoulders hoping that their neighbours won't be aiming their sights in their direction.
