Athletic Bilbao finished off the work they started last week with a 6-4 aggregate win over Schalke '04. After the 2-4 scoreline from the first leg the German side had to win by a margin of three to go through, but they started gamely, Iraizoz having to save from Huntelaar and Holtby before Huntelaar picked up a loose ball from Ander to fire a shot wide of the keeper. Ibai Gómez equalised though, beating Unnerstall from outside of the area before the break, and although Raúl restored the lead with an impressive shot soon after the restart, Susaeta levelled the scores again just three minutes later. In their last two ties Athletic have knocked out Manchester United and Schalke, two of last season's Champions League semi-finalists, and they now go on to a semi-final meeting with Sporting Lisbon.
