Another brilliant result for Athletic Bilbao, who came from behind to beat Schalke '04 in Gelsenkirchen by 2-4. Llorente poked home the first goal after keeper Hildebrand spilled a Susaeta shot, but just two minutes later Raúl proved he has still got what it takes when he nipped in to turn Uchida's cross past Iraizoz on the near post. The German side dominated after that, Iraizoz having trouble with a long shot from Farfán before the break, and Raúl put the locals ahead with a second goal on the hour mark. Llorente levelled the scores again though with a near post header from Ibai Gómez's corner, and with ten minutes to go substitute keeper Schober could only push out Susaeta's cross as far as De Marcos, who turned the ball back in to the net. Muniain and Gómez could have scored again, but Schalke came back, Huntelaar hitting the post and Iraizoz preventing Raúl from completing his hat-trick. With the game in the third minute of injury time however Muniain made it four on a rapid breakaway, and Bilbao should now have a big enough margin to defend their lead in the San Mamés stadium next week.
