Atlético Madrid will be defending a two goal lead in Turkey next Thursday after beating Besiktas 3-1 in their first leg match. Simeone's team started strongly, Falcao and Salvio missing chances before Salvio picked up a pass from Koke to force a shot past Cenk Gönen. A couple of minutes later the visiting keeper had to save from Filipe Luis, and a minute later he was beaten again by Salvio, this time with a lob after another Koke assist. And shortly before half time Adrián won the ball in midfield and cut through to fire a shot in off the crossbar for his side's third. Up to that point Courtois had only been tested by an early shot from Manuel Fernandes, but eight minutes after the restart Simao hooked a shot in to the top of the net after a corner came out to him, the Portuguese winger not celebrating the goal out of respect for his old supporters. The away goal was a blow to Atlético, although it could have been worse in the end, Pektemek missing a sitter and Courtois having to save late on from Holosko and from a header by his own defender, Godín.
