A magnificent Athletic Bilbao stunned Old Trafford with a display of football which saw them beat Manchester United 2-3. Rooney gave the Premier League side the lead midway through the first half after Iraozoz could only push out a shot from Chicharito Hernández. But Llorente and Susaeta went close, and De Gea had to turn a shot from Iraola round the post before Llorente got in front of his marker to head the equaliser from Susaeta's cross. Coming just before the break it was a psychological goal, and after the restart De Gea had to make a couple of important saves from Muniain before Ander Herrera lifted the ball over for De Marcos to turn a shot past the keeper from a possible offside position. Rooney was the only one to cause any problems for Iraizoz, and De Gea saved again from substitute Toquero. With two minutes to go though the local keeper could only push away an angled shot from De Marcos, and Muniain steamed in quicker than anyone to whip in the rebound. An injury time Rooney penalty after De Marcos handled in the area reduced the gap to one goal, but United will have to beat Athletic by two clear goals in San Mamés to go through, which won't be easy.
