Spain's under 20's will not be following in the footsteps of the under 19 and 21 sides after losing to Brazil in the penalty shoot out. The youngsters had already beaten South Korea on penalties in the last round, but spot kick saves by Gabriel from Espanyol's Jordi Amat and Alvaro Vázquez ended their participation in the tournament. Julen Lotetegui's team had been the better of the two throughout the 120 minutes, but they went behind late in the first half when Willian turned in the rebound from an offside position after Henrique's shot had come back off the bar. Rodrigo got on the end of Hugo Mallo's cross to head home the equaliser after the restart, but Dudu put the South Americans back in front ten minutes in to extra time. Two minutes later Vázquez levelled the scores once again from a Planas cross, but they could not find the goal they needed to ensure a place against Mexico in the semi-finals.
