Spain had more problems than expected to win their opening Elite round game against the little fancied Armenia. Juanmi and Alcácer went close early on, but Grigoryan replied with a shot just wide, and Julen Lopetegui's side were left with ten men when Deulofeu picked up a second booking on the stroke of half time. Even so Suso and Juanmi brought good saves out of Ohanyan before Suso opened the scoring after Jesé laid the ball back. Davit Hakobyan equalised however five minutes later, beating Dani Sotres with a shot from outside of the area, and soon afterwards Jesé fired a penalty kick wide after Grimaldo was brought down inside the area. Spain didn't give up though, and Jesé and Saúl both just failed to hit the target before Derik headed on Jesé's cross for Juanmi to score an injury time winner.
