A Pyrrhic victory for Spain in their last group game, a 4-0 win over England only enough to give them second spot in their group. Santi Denia's side were looking for revenge against the team who knocked them out of the competition last season, and who beat them in the final the year before. And although Rubén Blanco had to be at his best to keep the scores level at the break, strikes from Calero and Grimaldo soon after the restart swung the game in their favour. Samper added a third a substitute Gayá made it four in injury time, but when news came in that Georgia had beaten Ukraine 1-0 they knew it was to no avail.
