Celta restored their four point lead over third placed Valladolid after beating Villarreal B 2-0 on Sunday evening. After two games without a win, Paco Herrera's side desperately needed the three points, and things swung their way in the ninth minute when Lejeune was sent off for bringing down Iago Aspas in the area. Aspas fired his spot kick against the post however, and it was until the first few minutes of the second half that Joan Tomás set up Orellana and then Aspas for the goals which took the Galicians to within four points of neighbours Depor in the table. Meanwhile Córdoba consolidated their position in the play-off spots with a 3-1 victory over promotion rivals Hércules. By half time Airam and López Silva had already put them two up, and although Gilvan got one back with ten minutes to go, David Prieto wrapped things up for the Andalusians near the end. (01.04.12)
Second division leaders Deportivo were surprisingly beaten 1-0 by struggling Girona in the first match on Saturday afternoon, although they still maintain a seven point lead over the rest pending Celta's game on Sunday. Riki could have given the Galicians the lead when he hit the bar with a free kick on the half hour mark, but Corominas went close a couple of times for the locals, and with the first half coming to an end Jandro put them ahead from the penalty spot after Colotto was sent off for blocking a Corominas shot with his arm. After the restart Riki hit the woodwork again, but despite having Oscar Díaz sent off, the Catalans held on to give new coach Javier Salamero a much needed win in his first game in charge since taking over from Josu Uribe earlier in the week.
As things stand at the moment, Valladolid are the only team to threaten the top two, and they are now just a point behind Celta after a 2-1 victory over Las Palmas. All the goals came after the restart, Nauzet opening the scoring early on with an individualist effort. David García headed the equaliser for the Canary Islanders with an hour on the clock, but after Javi Guerra and Oscar both wasted chances, Oscar tied up the three points in the last minute with a header from close to goal. Valladolid move six point clear of Almería, who stay in fourth spot despite a 1-1 draw by Xerez. Lucas Alcaraz's side have not won now in six games, and they went behind in only the third minute when José Mari took advantage of some slack defending before beating Esteban. Ulloa fired a penalty over the bar later in the first half after Mendoza handled in the area, but the second division top scorer headed home his 24th of the season from Aarón's cross with a quarter of an hour to go.
Alcorcón are up in to the play-off spots after a 1-2 win at regional neighbours Guadalajara, their sixth victory in eight games. Paco Montañés got the first shortly before half time after a dazzling run which started in his own half and ended with him lobbing keeper Saizar, and although Anibal equalised on the hour mark after Jona set him up, Oriol Riera struck the winner near the end after picking up an assist from Abraham. The Madrid based side move above Córdoba, who play on Sunday, and Elche, who lost 1-2 to Huesca. Cristóbal opened the scoring with just under half an hour gone, latching on to a loose ball to beat Luis García, but Tariq levelled the scores with twenty minutes to go, and in the last minute Roberto fired home the winning goal to keep his team three points above the relegation spots.
Gimnàstic moved off the bottom of the table after a 1-1 draw with neighbours Barcelona B, Fernando Morán saving a point with a second half penalty after Balliu handled in the area. Lobato had given the youngsters a first half lead with a first time volley from a Planas cross. Nàstic move above Cartagena, who lost 2-1 to local rivals Murcia. Emilio headed the locals in to an early lead, but Torres equalised four minutes later after Alberto saved a previous effort. The visitors were left with ten men though when Dimas picked up a second booking, and Cristian García gave the locals the three points with a header a quarter of an hour from the end. Alcoyano are now five points above the bottom two after a 2-1 victory over Sabadell. David Torres put the East coast side ahead in the first half, and although Juvenal equalised from the penalty spot two minutes after the restart, Alvaro gave new coach Luis César a first win with four minutes to go. Numancia are back in the running for the play-off spots after a 1-0 victory over Recreativo on Friday night took them to within four points of sixth place. It was a dull game though, the best chance in the first half falling to Recre's Pablo Sánchez, who saw his shot kept out by Zabal. In the end though substitute Díaz de Cerio won it after picking up a pass from Bedoya before beating Manu with ten minutes to go. (30.03.12)
