Champions League, quarter final, first leg

AC Milan 0 - Barcelona 0

Barcelona's tie against AC Milan will be decided next week in the Nou Camp after the first leg ended without goals. Robinho missed an easy chance for the Italians and Valdés had to save from Ibrahimovic a few minutes later, but otherwise Guardiola's side were on top, with Abbiati doing well to keep out Messi and Xavi. Alexis had a good penalty appeal waved away and then was closed down by Antonini when free on goal, and after the restart Puyol headed just wide from a corner, and Abbiati saved from Messi again. But for the first time in 30 Champions League games Barça failed to score, and if they are to make it through to a second final in a row they will have to get at least one next Tuesday. (28.03.12)

APOEL Nicosia 0 - Real Madrid 3

Real Madrid are virtually sure of a place in the semi-finals after a 0-3 victory against APOEL Nicosia on Tuesday evening. Mourinho's side dominated the first half, with Chiotis saving well from Özil and Cristiano Ronaldo, and Benzema putting an easy chance over the top. It was not until twenty minutes from the end though that they took the lead, Benzema lunging forward to head Kaká's cross past the keeper. A few minutes later Kaká connected with Marcelo's cross to make it two, and with the game coming to an end Benzema scored the third after Özil set him up. Next week's second leg looks like being a mere formality. (27.03.12)
