Deportivo moved seven points clear at the top of the second division after beating Córdoba 2-0 on Sunday evening. It was not a comfortable victory though, Charles and López Silva testing Aranzubia twice and Dubarbier hitting the bar from a yard out as the visitors dominated the opening ten minutes. Xisco missed a couple of chances after that though, and with twenty minutes on the clock Borja won the battle with Alberto to get to Aythami's long ball and score. The Andalusians were looking to consolidate their sixth spot though, and Aranzubia had more work to do before Aythami got on the end of Guardado's cross to make it two midway through the second half.
Third placed Valladolid closed the gap behind Celta to three points after a 1-4 win at Numancia. The locals had not lost at home since October, but by half time they were three down after a shaky defence conceded goals to Javi Guerra, Sisi and Víctor Pérez. Julio Alvarez got one back with a well struck free kick soon after the restart, but five minutes later Javi Guerra got on the end of Nauzet's pass to wrap things up. Elsewhere Barcelona B beat Alcoyano 2-1 to leave their opponents further down in the drop zone. New coach Luis César saw his side take an early lead through Gato, but Deulofeu set up Rodri to equalise a few minutes later, and Dongou got the winner for the youngsters after connecting with a pass from Kiko Femenía. The rescheduling of the midweek day 30 fixtures to later in the season meant that second placed Celta had to play away for the second game in a row, and after losing at Las Palmas last weekend, they dropped points again after drawing 1-1 at Huesca on Saturday. The Galicians had the better of the play, but David Rodríguez missed an easy chance with less than a minute on the clock, and Túñez headed a free kick against the post a few minutes later. Midway through the first half though Roberto pulled down a long ball to allow David Vázquez to run through and fire a long shot in off the post, and after that Luis García pulled off a string of saves to keep the locals ahead. With three minutes to go however Joan Tomás controlled Hugo Mallo's cross and struck an impressive overhead kick past the keeper to save a point which takes his side to within four points of Depor in the table.
Depor and Valladolid play tomorrow, but fourth and fifth placed Almería and Hércules both failed to take advantage. Almería could only draw 2-2 at Las Palmas, despite taking the lead twice. Second division top scorer Ulloa headed them in to the lead at the start of the first half, and although Javi Guerrero headed the equaliser, Ulloa put the visitors back in front after connecting with Goitom's cross with twenty minutes to go. David García got on the end of Viera's corner though level the scores once again later on. Almería move level with Hércules after the Alicante based side were surprisingly beaten 1-3 by bottom club Gimnàstic. Morán won himself a penalty late in the first half which he himself converted, and he then set up Rodri for a second on the stroke of half time. Gilvan got one back with an angled shot five minutes in to the second half, but Morán wrapped things up with a third goal in injury time.
Alcorcón kept their hopes of a play-off spot alive with a 1-2 victory at Recreativo. Nagore opened the scoring for the Madrid based side with an angled shot midway through the first half, but Pablo Sánchez equalised from the penalty spot after Babín brought down Berrocal soon after the restart. Babín made up for his mistake though, heading the winner from Nagore's cross a few minutes later. Alcorcón move to within three points of the top six, level now with Elche, who were held to a 0-0 draw at Xerez. Despite the result both keepers had work to do, Juan Carlos in particular saving a Pablo Redondo penalty after Flaño brought down Maldonado. Another disappointment though for Pepe Bordalás's side, who have only pivcked up four points from their last six games.
In the lower reaches of the table, Cartagena and Girona stay in the bottom four after cancelling each other out in a 1-1 draw. Coro headed in Acuña's cross in the seventh minute to put the Catalans ahead, but Collantes made it all square with a shot from outside of the area later in the first half. Guadalajara are inching away from the drop zone, and they picked up another point away from home in a 2-2 draw at Sabadell. The visitors went in front twice, Anibal taking advantage of a hesitant defence to score the opener late in the first half, and after Hidalgo headed an equaliser, Badía restoring the lead after De Navas could only push out an effort from Jonas. Badía got himself sent off though for elbowing Oscar Ramírez, and Florian completed the scoring with the game already in injury time. (24.03.12)
Villarreal B moved nine points clear of the relegation zone pending the rest of the weekend's games after beating Murcia 2-0 on Friday night. Iñaki Alonso's side had been dropping down the table after only one win in their last eight games, and they went behind early in the second half when Lucas Porcar beat Alberto with a well struck free kick. Lejeune and Moi could both have added to the lead after that, and with a quarter of an hour to go Gerard Bordas finished off a long run with a lob over the head of the keeper. The result takes the youngsters level with their opponents in the rankings. (23.03.12)
