Real Madrid ended the group stage of the Champions League with six wins out of six after beating Ajax 0-3 in their last group game. Mourinho gave a run out to some of his lesser used players, and with just under a quarter of an hour gone Callejón beat the offside trap to collect Kaká's through ball and open the scoring. The Dutch side felt themselves unlucky to have two goals disallowed incorrectly for offside, and with the first half coming to an end Higuaín picked up a long pass from Benzema to make it two. Callejón wrapped things up with a third goal near the end, and with Olympique Lyon winning 1-7 in Zagreb, Ajax are out of the competition. Meanwhile Villarreal were beating the negative records for Spanish sides in the tournament, a 0-2 defeat against Napoli meaning they ended their group without a single point. Second half strikes from Ilner and Hamsik were enough to take the Italians through to the knock-out stage, leaving Manchester City in third spot. (07.12.11)
Valencia are out of this year's Champions League after falling to a 3-0 defeat at Chelsea. Unai Emery's side needed a score draw to go through, but they found themselves behind in only the fourth minute when Drogba beat Diego Alves, and Ramires and Drogba added two more later on ensure top spot for the Premier League side. Valencia do still qualify for the Europa League however. Barcelona were already sure of finishing top of their group, and with the big match against Real Madrid coming up on Saturday, Guardiola put out side packed with reserves and youngsters for their tie with BATE Borisov. Even so they still ran out 4-0 winners, Sergi Roberto and Montoya scoring the first two either side of half time, and Pedro scoring two more, including a late penalty. (06.12.11)
