Not the greatest of starts for Spanish sides in the opening round of games in this season's Champions League. Real Madrid were the only one of the four to win, a second half strike from Di María enough to give them a 0-1 victory at Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night. Villarreal were beaten 0-2 by Bayern Munich though in the so-called group of death, Kroos scoring early on for the German side and substitute Rafinha wrapping things up later on. (14.09.11)
Draws for both Spanish sides in the opening day of this season's Champions League. Barcelona were a goal down in 25 seconds to AC Milan when Pato ran through to score, but Pedro equalised late in the first half, and a David Villa free kick gave the Catalans the lead early in the second half. However Thiago Silva headed in Seedorf's corner in the second minute of injury time to save a point for the Italians. Meanwhile Valencia could do no better than draw 0-0 at Racing Genk, leaving them with a lot to do against their other group opponents Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen. (13.09.11)
