What a last few days we have had in the transfer market! Many teams have clearly been waiting to pick up bargains as the bigger clubs desperately unload their unwanted players, and the activity since the weekend has been tremendous. Real Madrid managed to place Gago, Pedro León and Drenthe, although Lass will stay on as his move to Tottenham fell through, and Barcelona found homes for Hleb and Keirisson. Atlético Madrid were perhaps the most active side in the last few days though, complementing the star signings of Falcao and Turan with Diego and Pizzi, although Forlán and Elías had to move on to make room. Villarreal were able to overcome their frosty relationship with Mallorca to sign De Guzmán as a replacement for Cazorla, and Valencia splashed out a bit of the cash they got for the sale of Mata to strengthen their defence with Víctor Ruíz and Barragán. Elsewhere Granada, Zaragoza and Rayo in particular completed their squads with some last minute signings, and there were late movements as well at Sevilla, Betis and Espanyol. That's about it for now until the window opens up again in January, although clubs can still sign unemployed players as well as replacements for long term injuries in the meantime. (01.09.11)
