A stunning goal two minutes from the end by Leo Messi against arch-rivals Real Madrid gave Barcelona this year's Super Cup title. With the scoreline tied again at 2-2 the game looked like it was going to extra time until Messi got on the end of Adriano's cross to volley a first time shot past Casillas. Iniesta had given the Catalans the lead on the quarter hour mark after Messi put him through, but five minutes later Cristiano Ronaldo equalised after turning in Benzema's centre, his 100th goal for the club. Casillas saved from Pedro and Messi, Ronaldo hit the bar and Valdés had to turn an effort from Özil around the post as play swung from end to end. But on the stroke of half time Piqué back-heeled the ball on following a corner for Messi to restore the lead for the hosts. The pace continued after the restart, and with eight minutes to go Benzema levelled the scores again after the local defence failed to clear a corner. But Messi struck again, and the match ended in disarray after Marcelo was sent off for a hard tackle on debutant Cesc Fàbregas, Villa and Özil also being shown red cards as players and staff clashed angrily on the pitch.
