The long pre-season rolls on, with the last matches taking place this weekend before next week's new-season kick-off (players' strike permitting). Most of the traditional pre-season tournaments have been watered down, with Recreativo's Colombino trophy and Deportivo's Teresa Herrera trophy to be played over one match against Atlético Madrid and Sevilla respectively instead of the usual four team tournament. Cádiz did keep to their old format though for their Ramón de Carranza trophy, and the second division B side battled through to beat Udinese and then Málaga for an epic victory. Barcelona's Gamper and Real Madrid's Bernabeu will take place after the season has started, again over one match, as both sides have a more important prior engagement this week. (12.08.11)
