Guardiola's reign at Barcelona ended with another trophy after his side beat Athletic Bilbao 0-3 in the Spanish cup final! The Catalans got off to a strong start, Messi and Pedro going close before Pedro opened the scoring in the third minute, turning a shot past Iraizoz after Javi Martínez had failed to control the ball when Piqué headed over Xavi's corner. The Basque keeper did well to push a shot from Messi round the post soon afterwards, but Messi made it 73 for the season after running on to Iniesta's pass to fire a shot inside the near post a few minutes later. And the contest was over with only a quarter of the game gone when Pedro made it three after Xavi laid Piqué's through ball in to his path.

Athletic's first shot at goal came when Susaeta forced Pinto in to a good save with just under half an hour on the clock, and Llorente thought he should have had a penalty when Piqué held him back in the area. Messi got free later in the first half only to lob a shot straight at Iraizoz, but either side of the break Muniain tested Pinto again and Ibai Gómez lobbed a shot wide after picking up a pass from Ander Herrera, who Bielsa had been forced to bring on at half time despite suffering from a flu virus which had attacked the Bilbao squad during the week.

After that though Barça slowed things down, and there were few chances until referee Fernández Borbolán blew the final whistle. A 26th cup win (against Athletic's 23) and a 14th title for Guardiola in his relatively short spell in charge at the Nou Camp, and his legacy will no doubt carry on under new coach Tito Vilanova. Disappointment again though for Athletic after a second cup final defeat this season, a sixth game in a row without scoring a goal in this long and tiring campaign. But their side is still young, and their loyal fans kept on singing to the end despite the result. If they can keep their talented squad together, they must be destined for greater things in the future.
