Getafe were the only Spanish side to win on the opening day of the Europa League, although they had to come back from a goal down to do so. Michel lost Gavilán to an injury early on, but Colunga should have given his side the lead before Andreasen caught them out with a wide free kick which deflected off two defenders in to the net.
Half time substitute Casquero brought a good save out of keeper Roy Carroll immediately after the restart though, and Arizmendi levelled the scores with a header from near to goal after Cata Díaz headed back Mané's cross. Colunga fired another chance wide, but with ten minutes to go Pedro Ríos got the winner with a well struck free kick.
